Hazards when using cutting discs
"Hazards arise particularly during abrasive cutting and flame cutting,
- if these tasks are carried out by people who are not trained for them,
- due to fire and explosion hazards, e.g. due to sparks, hot metal and slag particles, heat conduction,
- when work is carried out without special eye or face protection,
- if safety devices are not present or are not functioning, e.g. protective hoods on hand-held angle grinders, devices against gas backflow and flame penetration on oxyfuel cutting tools,
- by the springing away of deformed steel parts,
- in the case of resin-bonded cutting discs that are past their expiration date (deterioration after three years)."
Further information on the safer handling of hand-held angle grinders can be found in: Safety in the fire service - Working aids for safety and health protection (BGI/GUV-I 8651) , p. 231 ff.
