Types of oil binders

There are different types of oil binders , which should be selected depending on the area of ​​application and the type of liquid:

• Universal oil absorbents : These products are suitable for a wide variety of liquids, including water, oil, and chemicals. They are particularly suitable for areas where different substances may be present.

• Oil-only absorbents : These absorbents absorb only oily liquids and repel water. They are ideal for use on water surfaces to clean up oil spills.

• Chemical binders (HAZ-MAT) : Designed for the safe handling of aggressive chemicals such as acids or solvents. They are frequently used in laboratories and industrial environments.

• Fire-retardant binding agent : Fire-resistant granules as a binding agent are perfect for high-temperature applications. This lightweight, non-abrasive spreading agent is ideal for gas stations, airports, train stations, transport companies, fire departments, the military, etc.
• Particularly environmentally friendly absorbent: Recycled cellulose from European sources is carefully mixed, processed into pellets and then crushed to achieve the optimal bulk density for the desired absorption performance.

• Different spreading agents

• Absorbent stockings : Flexible and adaptable, they are placed around machines or along leaks to contain and absorb liquids.

• Oil booms : Specifically designed for use on water surfaces, they float and prevent the spread of oil spills while simultaneously absorbing the oil.

• Cushions : With their large surface area and high absorption capacity, they are ideal for absorbing large quantities of liquid in hard-to-reach places.

• Mats / Rolls

Selecting the right oil binder or granules

Several factors should be considered when selecting the appropriate oil absorbent:

• Type of liquid : Depending on the substance (e.g., oil, water, chemicals), different binding agents are necessary.

• Application environment : Will the binder be used indoors or outdoors? Will it be used on solid surfaces or on water?

• Absorption capacity : Depending on the leakage size and absorption capacity, the appropriate material must be selected.

• Disposal & Environmental Aspects : Some binders are biodegradable or environmentally friendly, while others must be disposed of as hazardous waste.

Application of oil binders

The correct application of oil binders is crucial for their effectiveness:

1. Identifying the leak : Determine the source and type of leaked fluid.

2. Choose the right binder : Select the appropriate material depending on the situation.

3. Apply binding agent : Sprinkle or roll the material generously over the liquid.

4. Allow to take effect : Give the binding agent sufficient time to absorb the liquid.

5. Collection and disposal : Safely collect the saturated material and dispose of it in accordance with regulations.
