In addition to the Euro pallet, there are five other international pallet sizes that are recognized by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) according to ISO Standard 6780:2003 (see above).
For example, North American 40 x 48 inch pallets utilize 40-foot ISO containers between 7.5% and 12.1% more efficiently in floor space compared to Euro pallets. A 40-foot container fits 20 North American GMA pallets or 23-24 Euro pallets (1200 x 800 mm) depending on the stowage plan. Industrial pallets / UK standard pallets measuring 1200 x 1000 mm, on the other hand, are only slightly less space-efficient than GMA pallets. This means that with industrial pallets you can potentially achieve significant savings in container or sea transport compared to Euro pallets, as fewer containers are required for the same quantity of goods.
