WATCO Flachdachschutz (sold in the UK as Roofsafe) is a thick, fibre-reinforced roof coating for flat and low-pitch roofs that are accessed occasionally for maintenance. A single coat seals the surface, protects it from the weather and leaves a grippy finish – useful around plant, rooflights and walkways to HVAC units. The two colours make it easy to mark out permitted access routes on the roof.
The single-pack, solvent-based acrylic stays flexible and bridges cracks and splits of up to around 2 mm. It is water repellent immediately after application, so it can also be used for emergency repairs in damp conditions. Suitable substrates include asphalt, bitumen and roofing felt, fibre cement, corrugated sheet, plastic, tiles and metal. For roofs with regular foot traffic the manufacturer recommends a different system.
