WATCO Food-Safe Floor Coating Anti-Slip (sold in the UK as Safety Coat Food Safe) is designed for kitchens, food processing and chilled areas where floors need to be slip resistant yet easy to keep hygienically clean. According to the manufacturer it has been tested as non-toxic to EN 71-3 and assessed as taint-free for food production areas by sensory evaluation test TES-S-002.
It is based on a 2-pack polyaspartic resin that cures at floor temperatures down to −10 °C – useful for walk-in chillers that cannot be defrosted for days. The finely textured gloss finish gives slip resistance class R10 (manufacturer data) and is much easier to clean than coarse grit systems; the manufacturer states it can be steam cleaned. Suitable substrates are concrete, older asphalt, well-bonded existing coatings, wood and some metals.

For food areas without a slip requirement, the coating is also available as a smooth version.
The slip resistance rating is manufacturer data from a standardised test method. Whether the surface is sufficient for your specific work area depends on contamination, moisture and use, and should be assessed as part of your risk assessment.
