WATCO Lebensmitteltaugliche Bodenbeschichtung (sold in the UK as Food Safe Coating) is intended for sites where food is processed, stored or chilled. According to the manufacturer it has been tested for odour and flavour transfer using a sensory taint test (standard TES-S-002) and rated suitable for food production areas; it is also tested as non-toxic to EN 71-3 (manufacturer data).
It is based on a 2-pack polyaspartic resin that cures where conventional floor paints fail: according to the manufacturer it can be applied between −10 °C and 30 °C, so walk-in fridges and freezer areas can be coated without long shutdowns. It can be recoated after about 5 hours, making two coats in one day possible. The glossy finish is abrasion resistant, UV resistant and steam cleanable. Suitable for concrete, old asphalt, well-bonded existing coatings, some metals and wood.
