WATCO Wasserabdichtende Bodenbeschichtung (sold in the UK as Liquid Waterproofer) is a thick, flexible waterproof coating for floors and walls that suffer from damp – basements, storerooms, workshops or balconies. According to the manufacturer it seals against up to a 3 m head of water while remaining vapour permeable, so the substrate can continue to dry out.
The system of powder (quartz sand, selected cements) and a synthetic-resin liquid component is mixed and applied in two coats by roller, brush or trowel. The approx. 1 mm, matt textured layer accommodates minor movement and hairline cracks, is abrasion resistant and, according to the manufacturer, resists frost and salt. Mixed thickly, it can also be used on vertical surfaces such as cellar walls or inside tanks. The substrate is cleaned and thoroughly pre-wetted beforehand; no primer is needed.
