Buying guide: choosing the right office carpet
Use class
EN 1307 classifies textile floor coverings. For offices, corridors and public buildings with heavy traffic, class 33 ("commercial, heavy") is recommended. Classes 31 and 32 are only sufficient for less demanding areas.
Reaction to fire
Projects usually require at least Cfl-s1, escape routes often Bfl-s1. For roll goods the class normally applies only when fully bonded. Your fire safety concept is decisive.
Office chairs
Look for "castor chair suitable" to ISO 4918 – for workstations with the addition "continuous". Textile floors call for hard castors (type H to EN 12529).
Tiles or roll goods
Carpet tiles are quick to install, can be replaced individually and suit raised access floors. Roll goods are fully bonded, look more seamless and are the better choice for stairs.
Polyamide or polypropylene
Polyamide is particularly abrasion-resistant and recovers well from indentations – ideal for heavy traffic. Polypropylene is colourfast, absorbs hardly any moisture and is very easy to maintain.
Acoustics and indoor air
Textile floors noticeably reduce impact and room noise. For projects with sustainability targets, emission-tested qualities (e.g. GUT, Blue Angel) and PVC-free backings are of interest.
Frequently asked questions about carpet tiles
What are carpet tiles?
Carpet tiles are textile floor coverings in fixed formats, usually 50 × 50 cm, with a heavy, dimensionally stable backing. They are laid loose with a tackifier and can be replaced individually.
Which carpet is best for offices?
For offices, carpet tiles or needle felt in use class 33 with continuous castor chair suitability, antistatic properties and low flammability (Bfl-s1 or Cfl-s1) are recommended.
Are carpet tiles loose-lay?
Heavy commercial carpet tiles lie flat because of their weight. In offices they are still installed with a slip-resistant tackifier so they do not shift under castors. They are not permanently glued.
What is needle felt?
Needle felt is a textile floor covering made of fibres that are mechanically needled and bonded. It has no pile, is very robust and easy to maintain, and is available as roll goods or tiles.
How many carpet tiles do I need?
For 1 m² you need 4 tiles of 50 × 50 cm or one tile of 100 × 100 cm. Add 3–5 % waste depending on the room layout.
How do you clean carpet tiles?
Vacuum regularly with a brush vacuum cleaner, remove stains immediately and clean heavily used areas by spray extraction at longer intervals. Individual soiled tiles can be replaced.
What is the minimum order?
We deliver from 200 m² per colour and quality directly from European production. Price, lead time and samples on request.
Technical values are manufacturer data. Whether a floor covering is approved for your project depends on the current declaration of performance and your project requirements.
